Remembering Clayton Axlerod

Clayton was one of the most brilliant students in our class. He also was rather different, and I remember him wearing a fur coat to our high school graduation! His mother (the attorney for Eldridge Cleaver) used to give us a ride to school from time to time because we both lived in the Haight. When he went to Reed College, he ended up tutoring graduate school students in math, thanks to what he learned with Dr. Barker. He used to drop by my house and visit with my mom from time to time after graduation even when I wasn’t there. He died way too young; I wish he were here for this 50th celebration.
